You can add a phone number to Gorgias to communicate with customers by phone, SMS, or WhatsApp (requires Voice or SMS add-on with your subscription). Depending on the country you create the phone number for, there are different types of phone numbers available, with varying Voice, SMS, and MMS capabilities.

Available phone number types

Within each country, there are different types of phone numbers, each with their own purpose and capabilities. Not every country offers all types of phone numbers. See available phone numbers by country for details.

You can add the following types of phone numbers to Gorgias:

Local (geographic) numbers
These phone numbers are assigned to a specific geographic region or city. For example, London, New York or Toronto. These numbers are typically used by local businesses.
National numbers
National phone numbers are not region-specific. They are designed to be reachable across an entire country at the same cost. Since these numbers are not tied to a specific location, the geodata for a national number is usually listed as the country on incoming calls.
Mobile numbers
Mobile numbers are assigned by country in specific ranges so that they can be easily distinguished from local numbers. Mobile numbers are not available for every country.
Toll-free numbers
These phone numbers are free of charge to call from the caller's side. The receiving party pays charges on behalf of their customer to receive calls. Toll-free numbers are available in ranges (for example +1-888-XXX-XXXX). They are typically only reachable within the country where they are located.

Available phone numbers by country

You can create phone numbers in Gorgias for a variety of different countries.

Phone numbers for some countries can be created directly in Gorgias without any waiting period (go to Settings > Phone numbers > Add a phone number). In the list below, these numbers are marked with *self-serve in app.

For a number of other countries, you must submit a request to get a phone number. Gorgias needs to acquire these numbers on your behalf, a process which takes typically between 1-2 weeks. To comply with local regulations, you may be required to submit accompanying documentation in the form of a business registration excerpt or a copy of government-issued ID.
